My husband and I have lived in Florida for 29 years, and I was fortunate enough to visit my family in England every summer, up until he had a cerebral hemorrhage, and a brain tumor. Thankful benign, and dormant.
I chose after that not to leave my husband to visit England. Christmas was a sad time for me, so a few years back, when he asked me what I wanted, I said to spend Christmas at our favorite beach.
This is what we have been doing. Hopefully we will be able to get through on Skype, to England, on Christmas day. With the time difference I don’t get to see my granddaughters open their presents, but manage it some time during the day.
Now when my husband asks me what I want for Christmas, I tell him that I already have it, as a timeshare at Christmas is always waiting for me. What are you doing for Christmas/the holidays.
We try to Face-time on Christmas day to watch the grandchildren open their gifts from Santa which is always fun for me. I know how hard it must be on you not to be able to travel back to England since you are caring for your husband., The beach sounds wonderful though to me as I have always loved spending time each summer renting a camp when I was younger.

Yes that sea air makes me feel great, and I can walk miles.

As we grow older, at the holidays, we become so very appreciative of the people in our lives and the simple things. Merry Christmas to you.

We will be going to our daughters house to have the family meal and presents with her and her fiancé and their blended family. We will also be trying to figure out the time difference and day difference to Skype with our son who is in Sydney Australia.

You made the right decision, Susie. Spending time with your husband is important. You need each other. Good thing that you could Skpe your family on Christmas day!

Christmas is such a nice time for us to catch up with family members that we may not have been able to for sometime. It’s such a busy time and a beautiful time of year, but unfortunately it can also be a sad time for many. It seems like every year shortly after Christmas there will be many tragic stories on the news. I pray that 2018 will be different.
