We booked and paid for 7 nights/8 days at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. At check in I was asked for a credit card for incidentals.
On the Wednesday I saw a pending charge from the resort for $270. I went down to the front desk and spoke to the gentleman there. I was told that nothing had been charged, but there was a resort fee of $16 a day + 21% tax. The amount as of then was $54 and change.
We were extremely disappointed with the upkeep of the hotel, with corridors being lined with garbage, and empty containers, that weren’t picked up by the non existent employees.
Live music was piped music, and no one but the bartender and the two of us.
Thursday morning we left, giving them the opportunity to keep our money, and use it for a second fee.
Nothing was owed when we left. I got a pending amount of -$270 in my account for 2 days, and then the Monday after we left a $126.56. Obviously this was for the 8 days, and we had left Thursday instead of Saturday. I have now contacted my credit card bank disputing this charge.
Nothing impressed me at this so called resort.





So, $16 ‘resort fee’ for using the resort you paid to stay at? Interesting, but pretty horrible, Susie.

Did you Tweet a short message about the bad service you received? If not, it’s not too late. I tell the world when service is good and when it’s bad. Telling some of the local organizations (anyone that might want to know about hotel servers) can’t hurt either.

I am in the top 1% of local Google guides and initially posted there, and then shared at Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I also plan on Yelp, and then travel sites.

Yes! And use virtual credit cards when possible. Hotels wont go for that because you have too much control when and how much can be charged at any given time. But I say learn how to use them for other merchants or charges.

Finally, I got the answer to disputing the charges for 8 days, when we only stayed 5. Because I gave them my credit card at the start of the week, I had okayed any charges for the room. I now have the $126 charge back on my credit card and have to pay it.
